Camping: Buying Shelterss

Tent by a lake

The section of choosing the right type of shelter will help you see the advantages and disadvantages of each type. We started with tents, progressed to a pop-up, a trailer, two motorhomes, started backpacking, went back to a pop-up and now own a small trailer.

The key to enjoyable camping experiences is to figure out what type of camping you want to do, and what will fit best for your lifestyle, and pocketbook! Make a list of what you are looking for in the experience. Is your main goal travel, is it a new social group, or is it to "get away from it all?"

Go to camping shows to get ideas, but do not be swayed by over enthusiastic sales people. They will try to tell you what you should want. It is always a good idea to go home and take more notes. Talk with camping organizations and friends. Don't be afraid to ask questions and email us!
