We have used Royal Robbins zip and go pants for many years before we created the web site. Since we were looking for high quality products to share with our readers, this company was one of the first we contacted to review their clothing, knowing they would pass our criteria. We love the story on how this line got started:
"Royal Robbins is an internationally acclaimed climber and kayaker. who, with his wife and partner Liz, founded this outdoor clothing company over 30 years ago. Together they tackled ground-breaking (no pun intended!) ascents of difficult Yosemite climbs, taught skiing and climbing, and opened a climbing school. But the couple couldn't find the right clothing in which to explore, so in 1975 Liz decided to design her own. Her creation was the Billy Goat hiking short and is still their number one style, a classic design of enduring popularity.

Royal Robbins knows how to make high quality products for the real woman. Our reviewer likes to have pants that can be used for more than one purpose. These easily change from pants to Capri. Not only are they multi use, they are so comfortable. The material is durable yet soft (it’s been pre-washed). It has a touch of spandex for stretch and a comfortable fit, and has UPF for protection from the sun.

Besides being great looking, it is packable with Dri X-treme mesh lined collar band and vented back yoke. The hook & loop secure document pockets and zip secure front pocket make it ideal for those valuables, and the button roll up sleeve tabs modified shirt tail with side vents allows us to stay comfortable in all weather. When we backpack, everyone is always amazed at how cool and well rested we look. It may be an illusion, but it sure helps make it through another day.
One of our testers travels to Denmark for an extended stay to visit her daughter and family. There is a limited amount of clothing she can take, so she is always looking for the perfect travel pant. These are not only great looking, but have all the extras for travel. She loved the material, a combination of nylon and spandex, that does not look or feel like stretch, but very flattering, and never needed ironing. The style is dressy casual, for various activities. She especially loved the zipped privacy pockets for her valuables. She tested black and found she used them for just about every activity.
Anyone who walks, hikes, camps, or backpacks are probably familiar with zip and go pants but what makes Royal Robbins pants stand out is the extra care in the fit and the added features. It is hard to see where the zipper because the seam is smooth. The women’s pants have a little elastic on the waistband so no belt is needed. These are the only pants that have Velcro openings at the bottom of the leg, so we had no problems getting them off without taking our hiking boots off. We love to use these for all sports because we know that if it is cool in the morning, it might get hot as the day goes on. We have found these perfect for those 18 holes of golf and then the 19th hole.
This tester loved the outside, but also wants to look and feel good. Style is important, but the tester was very excited about the fit. He was surprised that these could fit someone who was 6’5” and thin. These looked great on the trail and at dinner. He fell in love with the gusseted crotch, articulated knees for extra comfort, and light, breathable, quick drying pants.
The Summer Hoodie by Royal Robbins is a perfect light hoodie for the cooler summer days. It is made with our soft organic cotton jersey and layers well with any cami's or tanks. It is one of the layering pieces that you always throw in, just in case, but secretly can’t wait to put on.
It has a stylish cowl neck and slightly flared sleeve so even though it is an over the head piece it is and easy on/easy off. But every time I put it on I don’t want to take it off!
