Review: Rome Industries
Rome Industries is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, starting by making the original pie iron. We love meeting the third generation and see that they are excited about new products coming out in today’s market. We have used pie irons for over 40 years and wouldn’t camp without them! We are amazed at how many people we are still introducing the experience of making wonderful pies over the campfire.
We have to agree with what they say about the round pie iron. With the round iron, we end up cutting off most of the crust that makes the pies extra yummy! That is our favorite! ”As much as people love the traditional square design, there is a vocal crowd of passion for our round Pie Iron. It's all in the way the cooker seals the food. Locking in flavors whether it's a hamburger, quick bread or dessert. With a sandwich, the round design crimps the corners of the bread to form a firm seal (similar to ravioli.)”
With our family, there is never too much popcorn, so we had to review the big bowl one! We found this is the first one of many we have tried that actually makes great popcorn on the fire. Maybe we won’t have to listen to swearing when the Jiffy Pop refuses to pop! New for 2010, the round shape of the big bowl popper is made for serious popcorn action. The hinged lid works like a charm and will up to 3 quarts at a time. All steel construction features a BBQ grade baked enamel cooking surface. Solid wood handle stays cool when cooking over campfire or hearth.

This book has just come out in 2014. Just looking at the recipes makes us want to get out camping! Maybe if the weather gets cold really fast, we will have to try them out in the fireplace. What is your favorite recipe? Even though this isn’t showing up on the website yet, there are lots of other books worth reading!
